Governor Appoints Oakley to Board of Trustees
Gov. Rick Perry has appointed Julie Oakley of Spicewood to the Texas Municipal Retirement System Board of Trustees for a term to expire Feb. 1, 2013, replacing Carolyn Linér of San Marcos.

Ms. Oakley is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Investment Officer, and Finance Director for the City of Lakeway. She is a member of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Government Finance Officers Association of Texas.

The Board and TMRS staff extend gratitude and appreciation to Carolyn Linér for her service to TMRS cities, municipal employees, and retirees.

TMRS Wins “Plan Sponsor of the Year” Award
On March 1, PLANSPONSOR magazine announced the 2010 winners of its annual “Plan Sponsor of the Year” awards, presented to retirement plans in the nonprofit, corporate, and public sectors. TMRS won the award in the Public Sector/Defined Benefit category for its performance in 2009. “TMRS appreciates the recognition this award represents. We will continue to do the best job we can to provide secure retirement benefits to our members and retirees while remaining mindful of the costs of these benefits to our cities,” said Ben Gorzell, Chair of the TMRS Board of Trustees.

TMRS Board Selects Executive Director
At its meeting today, the TMRS Board of Trustees selected David Gavia as Executive Director of the retirement system. Mr. Gavia has served as the Acting Executive Director since August 2009 and has also served as TMRS’ General Counsel since 2001. As Executive Director, Mr. Gavia will implement the Board’s policies and manage the future direction of TMRS.
